What is Youth Empowered through Sports?

Youth Empowered through Sport (Y.E.S.) is a partnership between the Youngstown Police Athletic Leagues and the faith community to encourage at-risk youth in our community to make positive life choices and embrace value-based living.

As the leadership for Y.E.S., we feel that it there is no better way to reach the lives of young people and families than through sports.  This summer of 2012, Y.E.S. will be holding an inner city youth basketball league with the goal of serving those young people in our community who are less fortunate.  However, we don't just stop at providing an athletic program.  Students, with the help of area mentors and pastors, will begin to engage the reality of making positive life choices while interacting with the Truth of scripture during weekly Christ-centered devotional times.  Why the approach?  Because we believe that basketball is more than a game... it's a training ground for life!
